Hello, this work item has been completed and was released on 11/12/2025. Here are the relevant revision notes:
- Student Demographics: The Student Legal Gender field (LSI.GN) is now a dropdown menu on the Student Demographics page and uses the same fixed code set as Student Gender field (STU.GN).
- School Info > Imports and Exports > CALPADS Extracts: On the Code Translations tab, the code set previously named Gender (STU.GN) has been renamed to Gender (STU.GN and LSI.GN). This unified code set now supports translation of Non-Binary to 'X', ensuring accurate CALPADS reporting.

This keeps coming up in our district. Since Non-Binary (X) is a legal gender in California, some students have a legal gender of Non-Binary, but a preferred gender of F or M. We can't save the Legal Student Information without adding a gender, but adding anything other than non-binary to that field is incorrect for certain students. I have had this come up twice in the last month alone. Please also include a CALPADS XREF Code Translation for this field, as we setup the code for Non-Binary to "N" before we knew that the state chose "X".
