Add a field for Staff Legal name on STF
We have to use our staff's legal name for any state reporting. However, our district allow our staff members to operate with a preferred name. I am asking for a space for a staff legal name so we can use the preferred name everywhere else in the system (master schedule, portals, Staff table).
Hello, this idea has been completed in the 3/21/2024 update. Here are the relevant Revision Notes:
School Info > Staff - See Staff documentation.
The following fields were added allowing a staff member's legal name and gender to be recorded. Schools can use the existing non-legal name and gender fields for the staff's preferred name and gender. These fields are not included in state reporting extracts at this time.
- Legal Last Name (STF.LLN)
- Legal First Name (STF.LFN)
- Legal Middle Name (STF.LMN)
- Legal Suffix (STF.LSF)
- Legal Gender (STF.LGN)

Many of our teachers have names they go by that differ from their legal names. For instance, we have a teacher who prefers his nickname. When he sees his legal name as the teacher of a course it is like nails on a chalkboard. Similarly, we have teachers with hyphenated legal last names and they only want to go by one part of the last name. Another case is a teacher who got married and wants to go by the last name of their spouse but their teaching credential still has their maiden name.
Our HR department 'owns' the staff table and insists on putting in the legal name or the name that appears on their credential or their social security card.
I can 'fix' some of these instances by editing the name in ParentSquare or Canvas but some instances I can't - like in Aeries if anyone logs in to look at who teaches a course they will see the legal name of the teacher.
Before Flex, this wasn't a problem because we could put in whatever we wanted for first and last name in the teacher table and just tie it with the ID number of the teacher in the staff table.
I know not much development is going into .NET as your focus right now is NextGen but it would be golden if you could make this one minor change.
Thanks in advance!

Additionally the ability to use either the legal name or preferred name during the Staff Google Sync process. This is causing us cascading issues with 3rd party systems since we use both Aeries -> Google, and Aeries -> Clever -> Active Directory provisioning.

I'd like a field for teacher preferred name or alias at the school site teacher level (like we have on student records) that would connect with their legal name in the staff section at the district level.

I've run into issues before with a teacher's preferred name not matching their legal name. I do believe this would be helpful.

This would be very helpful to parents as they try to navigate teachers who may not use their legal name. This is very confusing to parents and students. We have several teachers in our building that this affects.

Since I have went by my middle name my entire life, it would be helpful to avoid the confusion with my students, parents, and staff to recognize a completely different name.

Please allow me to use the name I have gone by all of my life. I saw M Evans earlier today and thought who is that? To make matters worse we have two Evans on my campus and no one would recognize me with an M in front of my name. Thank you!
